Staying safe on SpotYaBuddy

Meeting a new training buddy should be exciting, not stressful. A few simple habits keep it that way — here's how to look after yourself.

SpotYaBuddy is about real people meeting up in the real world. Most members are exactly who they say they are and just want a mate to train with — but it always pays to be sensible. Trust your gut, take it slow, and follow these guidelines.

Meet in public first

Have your first few sessions somewhere public and busy — the gym floor, a park run, a group class. Train where there are other people around. Don’t meet at your home, their home, or any private or isolated spot until you genuinely know and trust someone. There’s no rush.

Tell a mate

Let someone you trust know who you’re meeting, where and when — especially the first time. When you schedule a session in the app, you can use the built-in safety check-in to share the details (who, where and when) with a trusted contact in a couple of taps.

Keep chat in the app

Get to know someone through SpotYaBuddy’s chat before sharing your phone number, socials or any personal details. Keeping conversations in the app means we can help if something goes wrong — and you stay in control of what you share and when.

Protect your personal info

Don’t share your home address, financial details, or other sensitive information. Remember: SpotYaBuddy only ever shows the venues you choose to tag — never where you live. Keep it that way.

Trust your instincts

If something feels off, it probably is. You’re never obliged to meet up, stay, or continue a conversation. If a session isn’t working for you, it’s completely fine to leave. Your comfort comes first, every time.

Block & report anyone dodgy

If someone makes you uncomfortable, block them — they disappear from your app and you from theirs, with no notification sent. Please also report them so our team can take a look. You can block and report from any profile or chat. Reports are confidential.

In an emergency

If you ever feel you’re in immediate danger, contact Triple Zero (000) straight away. Your safety is far more important than being polite.

Tell us about it

Anything that doesn’t sit right — a dodgy profile, a bad experience, a safety idea — we want to hear it. Email us any time at hello@spotyabuddy.com. Helping keep the community safe helps everyone.
