Last updated: 10 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how SpotYaBuddy (“we”, “us” or “our”) handles your personal information. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. The short version
We collect what we need to help you find training buddies and nothing we don’t. We never collect or share your home address or precise live location.We don’t sell your data. You can access, correct or delete your information at any time.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, Apple or Facebook, the basic details those providers share with us.
- Profile information: your display name, date of birth, gender, activities, experience level, goals, availability and an optional short bio.
- Date of birth:we use this to confirm you’re 18 or over and to show your age. Your date of birth itself is never shown to other members — only your age is displayed.
- Photos: any profile photos you choose to upload (optional).
- Venues you tag: the gyms, studios, parks and other places you choose to train at. This is how buddies find you — we never ask for or store your home address.
- Messages and requests: the buddy requests you send and receive and the messages you exchange with other members.
Information we collect automatically
- Technical data: device and browser type, app version, and basic usage and diagnostic information to keep the Service working and secure.
3. Why we use your information
- to create and manage your account and profile;
- to match you with, and show you to, compatible members near the venues you train at;
- to enable buddy requests, chat and session scheduling;
- to send you notifications and service emails (including, if you opt in, a monthly buddy-introduction email);
- to keep the community safe — including reviewing reports, moderating content and enforcing our Terms;
- to improve, troubleshoot and develop the Service;
- to comply with our legal obligations.
4. When we disclose information
We do not sell your personal information. We disclose it only:
- to other members, limited to the profile information you choose to share (never your date of birth, email or the fact of where you live);
- to service providers who help us run the Service (such as our hosting and database provider, email delivery and analytics providers), under confidentiality obligations;
- where required or authorised by law, or to protect the safety, rights or property of members, the public or SpotYaBuddy.
5. Where your information is stored
Your information is stored using Supabase, hosted on Amazon Web Services infrastructure in the Sydney region (ap-southeast-2), Australia. Some of our service providers may process limited data outside Australia; where they do, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the APPs.
6. Your visibility controls
You control who can see you. You can limit your profile’s visibility (for example, to a specific gender), hide yourself from Browse entirely, and block any member so you disappear from each other’s app. See our safety guidelines for more.
7. Keeping your information
We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we’ll delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we’re required to keep it for legal, safety or dispute-resolution reasons.
8. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access — including encryption in transit, database access controls and row-level security. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to keep yours safe.

You may access and correct your personal information at any time from your profile settings, or by contacting us. You can also ask us to delete your account and personal information. To make a request, email privacy@spotyabuddy.com.
